This month I have another contestant in the, " too big to be a watch, small enough to be a personal timepiece" category. I will resist considering it a calculator as it has three distinct timepiece functions - stopwatch in 1/10 second, time & date, alarm. And yes, it has a basic calculator - no memories, just four functions ma'am. A little narrower yet thicker than a pocket protector, this was way cooler than carrying a slide rule. The whole thing weighs 5 ounces(150 grams). I have two identical ones - well almost identical, one is marked Casio, the other Radio Shack . Apparently Casio made them for the 'Shack'....they are otherwise identical. The setting instructions use January 25,1977 for their example, so I am guessing these were made in 1977. Woo Hoo -this display is GLORIOUS!!! The 1/4"(5mm) tall, aqua blue segments light up SO BRIGHT you can walk thru a totally dark room and see where you are going while shining this from waist level. The display is powered by one AA, the clock is powered by two #386 batteries. There is a jack for a plug-in wall adapter. The alarm is medium loudness, and has a neat feature that lets you choose 1, 2, 3 or 4 beeps for the alarm tone. The stopwatch allows you to do continuous, interrupted or lap timings. Up to 9 hrs,59 min and 59 seconds - at 1/10 second. What a fun little item....I'm taking it as my alarm clock the next time I travel. |
